MEET THE CREW
In any business the key to its success is the valuable employees that run the operation. That is very true in the Charter Fishing industry. Our employees are the soul of Saint Somewhere Charters and are there to ensure guest safety. Additionally they work very hard to provide you with the best experience possible on your venture.
Captain Joe Smith
Joe has had a life-long love of the outdoors and is a dedicated conservationist. Growing up on the largest lake in New Jersey he has spent his entire life fishing different bodies of water for a variety of species. From tuna fishing off Sandy Hook, NJ to tournament fishing in the Great Lakes, Joe has spent his life on the water. For the last 15 years Joe’s focus has been fishing the offshore waters of Cape Canaveral and Florida’s Space Coast. He considers it one of the most dynamic and productive fishing grounds he has experienced. Joe has extablished himself as a top charter captain and one of the leading swordfisherman in the area.
In addition to a life of fishing, Captain Joe Smith owned and operated a successful heating and plumbing company. Further, Joe has served as a Volunteer Fire Fighter for over 25 years earning the rank of Captain. In 2007 he was selected to join the National Science Foundation’s Antarctic Polar Winter Expedition as both Director of Heating & Plumbing Operations and acting Fire Chief. During this nine month expedition, Joe was responsible for the safety of 43 researchers and crew during the long and harsh Arctic winter.
Joe previously served on the Board of the Florida Sport Fishing Association and is active in many conservationist efforts. Both Saint Somewhere Charters and Captain Joe invite everyone to come and experience a great day of fishing.
Captain Michael “Mike” Dathe
Captain Mike grew up in the shadows of Port Canaveral and the Space Program. Choosing fishing over surfing at an early age he spent his entire childhood fishing the area. Most days you could find him walking the seawalls of the port fishing for everything and anything.
After High School graduation Captain Mike set down his rod and followed a new path. He joined the Marine Corps, earned his Pilots License, Graduated from UCF with a Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering and went to work in the field of Electronic Components.
After 30 successful years in the electronics industry he found his way back to fishing. Captain Mike is always ready to jump behind the wheel of Savannah Wind and set off on a fishing adventure.
Timmy Rattiger – Fishing Operations
Timmy was born in New York and moved to Florida at an early age. He has had that passion for fishing his entire life. He has fished all over the Caribbean, Gulf of Mexico and the South Atlantic. He has decades of experience as a First Mate on many large Sportfishing vessels. He has a wealth of knowledge and experience and is vital to our ‘catching’ success.
When you board Savannah Wind for your fishing adventure you will quickly realize how passionate Timmy is about fishing and ensuring you have a memorable day on the water.
Savannah Jane – Guest Relations/Wildlife Whisperer
Our newest crew member Savannah Jane is perhaps our most unique. Our paths crossed early in 2022 when Timmy rescued her from a roadside ditch. At the time she was rather filthy and a little unkempt. We cleaned her up, filled her with some much needed air and now she has a permanent home on Savannah Wind.
Since joining the crew we have noticed a considerable rise in the frequency of us sighting various wildlife offshore. We have seen pods of Dolphin circling the boat for much longer than previous. We have been on Swordfish drifts for hours and had whales stay with the boat for more than 30 minutes. More importantly we experienced a measurable increase in both the quantity and quality of the fish we raise.
It is our firm belief that this is because much like most of us humans, very few of the wildlife offshore have ever seen a Unicorn.
One minor note – Savannah Jane “SJ” does not like to be referred to as a ‘Mascot’ nor a ‘Charm’.
